Build the infrastructure for small-business acquisitions.
Thousands of profitable American businesses change hands every year through a process that still depends on circulated PDFs, telephone follow-up, and listings buyers have little basis to trust. buytoprofit is a marketplace and transaction workspace built for how buyers and sellers work today: plain-English search, an enforced confidentiality gate, and analysis tools that carry a transaction from first inquiry through to closing.
We are an early-stage company with a small team. Three positions are open, and all of them are remote within the United States.
How the team operates.
Four conditions that apply to every position.
Direct ownership
Each person owns an area of the product outright. Decisions are made by the person closest to the work, not routed through layers of approval.
Written and remote
Every position is remote. Decisions and their reasoning are documented, so context does not depend on attending a meeting or sharing a time zone.
Accuracy over persuasion
Seller-provided figures are presented as seller-provided. We do not publish scores, ratings, or valuations that imply a level of verification we have not performed.
Frequent delivery
Work ships in small, verified increments rather than long release cycles, and it is measured by what it does for buyers and sellers in production.
Three positions, all remote.

Software Engineer
Build and maintain the marketplace and the deal workspace: listing search, the confidentiality gate and data room, messaging, letters of intent, due diligence, payments, and the analysis tools built on top of them.
Responsibilities
- Deliver features end to end in TypeScript, Next.js (App Router), React, and Tailwind, on a Postgres database accessed through Prisma and Supabase.
- Take responsibility for correctness on what you ship, including types, automated tests, and verification before release.
- Enforce confidentiality at the data layer. Access to gated deal information is denied at the database, not concealed in the interface.
- Work directly with the founder to define scope and trade-offs, and own the implementation decisions that follow.
Requirements
- Four or more years building and operating production web applications.
- Strong command of TypeScript and React, with equal comfort in SQL and data modeling.
- A working habit of considering authorization and data exposure before presentation.
- Clear written communication. On a remote team, written work is how decisions are made and reviewed.
Preferred: Payments infrastructure (Stripe), marketplace products, or applied language models.
Business Development Manager
Develop the supply side of the marketplace and the relationships behind it: business brokers, brokerage firms, and owners preparing to sell. This is the first commercial position at the company, and the role includes building the process rather than inheriting one.
Responsibilities
- Build and manage the pipeline of brokers, brokerage firms, and direct sellers from initial contact through to a published listing.
- Onboard new sellers and brokers directly, so that each first listing is complete, accurate, and ready for buyer review.
- Establish partnerships with brokerage firms, SBA lenders, and franchise resale groups.
- Report market feedback to the product team, including what sellers request and where transactions stall.
Requirements
- Three or more years in business development or sales, carrying an individual quota.
- Experience adjacent to small-business M&A is preferred: business brokerage, SBA lending, franchise resale, or an SMB marketplace.
- Disciplined pipeline management in a CRM, in a role where you conduct the outreach personally.
- A record of accurate representation. Overstating a business is a liability to the marketplace, not a sales technique.
Marketing Specialist
Own acquisition for both sides of the marketplace across search, content, lifecycle email, and paid channels, measured against listings created and inquiries sent rather than traffic volume.
Responsibilities
- Develop the Learn library and category pages into an authoritative resource for first-time buyers and sellers.
- Own technical and content SEO for the terms buyers and sellers actually search, including business type and location queries.
- Manage lifecycle email for buyers and sellers, covering onboarding, saved-search alerts, and re-engagement.
- Design and run paid acquisition tests on a defined budget, and report results against acquisition cost, including tests that did not work.
Requirements
- Three or more years in growth or content marketing in a hands-on capacity rather than agency management.
- Demonstrated SEO depth across keyword research, on-page optimization, internal linking, and technical remediation.
- Fluency in analytics, with the ability to attribute spend to signups, listings, and inquiries.
- Precise, plain written English. Copy here is expected to demonstrate subject knowledge.
